FO - At Last!

Well, I struck out looking for yarn shops in Las Vegas. I went armed with a list of shops, but found that they were all 8-10 miles from where we were staying. Instead, I worked a bit on a hat/scarf set and completed the project. Yay! A finished object! (FO) This one is an early birthday gift, so I'll mail it off to Gretchen this week.

I love these two patterns. The scarf is the reversible cable scarf (palindrome) and the hat is from the Three Tams patterns. The yarn is a baby alpaca in light blue and the colorwork in the hat is done with Noro Silk Garden. I added a ruffle to the scarf this time, just to add a bit of feminine flair. I've made these two patterns several times and they have to be some of my winter favorites. Here are the direct blog links to the patterns ~ Scarf and Tam.

And here's a sneak peak at the finished project .....

A Week of Scarves! Day 5 - Palindrome - A Reversible Cable Scarf

This scarf is easy to make, a great beginner cable scarf, and is reversible. How cool is that? This is a design from Kristin Bellenhumeur, inspired by the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern, and is is now available as a free internet pattern (see fine print at the bottom of this post for copyright usage compliance.) Named Palindrome, which means a line that reads the same forwards or backwards. Clever.

Palindrome - A Reversible Cable Scarf

Materials: Approximately 385 yards worsted weight yarn
Size 9 needles, or size recommended for yarn
Cable needle
Scarf measures approximately 4.5" x 64"

Directions:
Cast on 40 sts using your favorite cast-on method

Row 1: (RS) *K2, P2* across
Row 2, 3, and 4: Repeat Row 1
Row 5: (RS) *K2, P2, C8F* Repeat to last 4 sts, K2, P2
Row 6: Repeat Row 1

Repeat rows 1-6 for desired length, ending with row 4.
Bind off in K2, P2 pattern.

***KEY*** Very important for reversible cables!
C8F: Slip 4 sts to a cable needle and hold to front, K2, P2, then K2, P2 from the cable needle.
